A love story
Under Romeo and Juliet castles in Montecchio Maggiore, at the edge of the city of Vicenza, you expect to find everything but a "Metodo Classico" sparkling wine, yes, the real one, with secondary fermentation in bottle, the Italian "Champagne" so to speak.
Marco Caltran and Isidoro Maccagnan have set up right here on Lessinia foothills a small winery which produces only that: sparkling wine, bubbles.
Mario Caltran, Marco's father who passed away in 1997, had bought the grounds and planted his vineyards to make sparkling wine to be drunk at home together with friends. He had not chosen his land at random, but exactly this hillside under Bellaguardia castle, where two winemakers, the Strobele sisters, were making in the 1920s " champagnetto of the castles", an award-winning sparkling wine at the important fair in Lonigo.
The vineyard clings to the hillside between the castle and the village, where the mountain winds coming from Pasubio, Carega and Asiago plateau increase the temperature range and subsequently enrich the quality of the grapes.
Hand-crafted "Metodo Classico" sparkling wine with no compromises.
